We are the South Sudan Women's Empowerment Network, Inc. (SSWEN). SSWEN was established in response to unique needs and strength of spirit of the Sudanese women. We acknowledge the difficulties these women have faced and encourage and drive positive change made by and for women. Our goals are based on the premise that dependency is not empowering and, while charity is a laudable goal, it also builds a dependency that is ultimately demoralizing and unsustainable.

First and foremost, SSWEN recognizes the great human potential within each individual, and offers a hand to those in need, rather than a hand-out. We are strongly opposed to the hand-out approach because we believe it destroys personal dignity and initiative.
